Anybody else had problems with upholstery spray glue not holding? I wipe the parts clean with a mild solvent / cleaner, glue according to instructions and it stays tacky at best. All my work is unraveling!!! Tried the stuff from Al Knoch and 3M... Help!
I had the same problem. I ended up using carpet glue. It's thick and I applied it with a brush. You don't need alot. I went through about a can and a half for the whole car. In some case, I put some weight on the carpet(paint can) until the glue cured. Also, arpund the rocker panels, I used 1 X 2 wood trim and wood clamps to make a nice tight fit. Good Luck.
My experience with those spray upholstery glues is if you dont spray both parts, let it 'gas off' for 2 to 3 min. they wont stick and or stay very long.
As the glue is releasing the vapors and solvents(VOC's), by not letting it gas off, you have trapped the VOC's between the 2 pieces and hence, it comes back up.
I have sprayed both parts, allowed to tack dry and still it is like gum... When you resort to canned , brush on contact cement, do you have to remove all the old glue or did the conact cement work over the old glue?
