I am building a resto mod 64 coupe. C4 front suspension with a 454. I fabbed up the motor mounts and need to build the trans mount for the Tremec. The center of the crossmember has been cut out and replaced with a piece of 2 X3 tubing. I feel stupid for asking, but do I level the engine or the carb flange to the frame ? I am worried about getting the trans too high in the tunnel. The body is still off. Any ideas ??
It finally became a rolling chassis today, so I will push it outside tomorrow and get a pic to post.
Im not a C2 guy so I cant say for sure. But... most engines are at a 3 degree downward angle at the trans. This should level the carb. Lay the level on the intake/carb face and go from there. You may need to change it a bit to gain tunnel room etc.
This is my .02 worth. I would be more concerned with drive line angle and tunnel clearance. align the driveline and shim the motor to make that work. if you end up with a little elevation on the engine its no big deal. if the driveline is out of whack you will get a vibration and that is a big deal. If you level the engine or carb flange then I think you will end up with driveline issues. Good luck
I believe you are right ! I'll try that today. Looks like I will have to set the body back on "one more time " I'm getting so good at it I can do it myself ! Sorry, I suffer from CRS !
Thanks, Pops
Gregg.
I have a 4 barrell carb wedge in my garage made for a boat motor. If it tilts too much you can always level the carb with a wedge. I'll throw it in my truck for when I'm out your way or at least have it at work if you stop by.

Gregg, Using the Tremac, I think that you are wise to install the body before welding up the trans crossmember. I change the transmissions in my 63 fairly often, so I built my mount extra low in a removeable crossmember, and then I shim it up as necessary. It sounds like you have come a long way since I saw your 64.

AARG, how do you put multiple pics in ? I dropped the trans down to 2 degs and now the header hits. I will have to either notch the motor mount or dimple the header. With the trans at 2 degs, the carb pad is almost level, 3 degs would probably be right. Just like you told me. Thanks !!
