Default Help.. Dead Battery Problem

I have the ZZ383 running as of Sat afternoon. Started on the first turn over... Wow!

I'm running a MSD with 6Al and I have the black hooked to the engine ground and the positive to the battery. The red wire is to switched 12v. I took the 12v going to the old ballast and hooked it to a terminal where I also hooked the choke and MSD small red wire. Every thing worked and the engine started just fine.

I went out today and the battery on the car was dead!

I'm also running a Tuff Stuff external regulated alternator and it has felt hot all weekend. I checked the red wire on the alternator to ground and it had 11.2 volts on it yesterday with the key off. Is this right? I also changed to an electronic regulator that a friend took off a 66 and gave me.

Should I try my old regulator or do you think I have another problem. Does that MSD bok draw power when the key is off?

Anything you guys can suggest..

hi, sounds to me like you have the MSD hooked up correctly and no it won't draw any juice with the key off. sounds like the regulator or bad diodes in the alternator.

My my 66 BB has MSD ignition /6200 box & pro billet dist
But also suggest >>>

........coincidently maybee the battery has gone to heaven, i installed optima red top in my 66 maybe 5/7 years ago ...has never been on a charger ...... also install a battery shut off ........... to prevent parsitic drain & the remote chance of a fire due to a short ......... I had frequent problems with voltage reg & many years ago installed ( eek ) a transistoised voltage reg fro JC Whitney........ (11 bucks), all worked for me my 66 BB is very Happy
