Default block off side vents?

Looking for an easy way, (no laughing as I know there are few easy things on these cars), to block off the side vents? I have Vintage a/c with heat so no use for the lower side vents as they just leak a little hot air. I was thinking of maybe just removing the vent grills and sliding cardboard or foam in to block any air from coming through. With the vents closed, some air still comes through. Anyone do this?

Thanks

Default Did it on a '67 GTO...

I bought kick panel speakers but wanted to preserve the fresh air function. The operation of the fresh air doors on the new kick panels is impossible, so I really want to find the parts to restore that function.

BTW, the car has Classic Auto Air heat & AC, but only recirculates inside air, unlike factory systems. If someone farts, everyone in the car will know it.

My VA system is the same. That's why I want to block off the side vents. If someone farts in my car, it will never be heard over the side pipes but yep, will get circulated really well!

Default I forgot to answer the question!

In the GTO I sealed a couple of 1 foot square by 3-1/2" fiberglass batts in plastic and crammed them back in there.

Visual asthetics were not important because the stupid little doors on the kick panel speakers cover them up.

I have the "Hot Rod Air" system. I left my lower vents operational. Mine are nice and tight and don't leake any out side air. The "HRA" is recirculate only also. I like the option of bringing in fresh outside air on those not so hot days.....and if some one soils there shorts or has an brown gas leak, I'll be able to force out the offending odor with pressureized air at 100 MPH....

Just order new doors or rebuild them yourself and you will cure the problem. No need to eliminate the option all together.

Hello Ken,
I did the stop leak thing. I fiberglassed the opening , I am building a 67 vette rod from scratch so it really did not matter about keeping it original.

Yes, new doors with new rubber gaskets on them are cheap and easy to install.

We blocked the vents but mainly to use those recesses to house the fuse box on the drivers side and for the A/C & heater lines on the passenger side. We glassed them in while the nose was off the car which made it easier and installed drains in each cowl vent to drain off any water. We then made new kick panels.

If it weren't for those reasons I'm not sure we would have blocked it off as it's nice to still be able to get fresh air on those days when you don't need the A/C.

When I don't need A/C, I roll down the windows and open the wing vent windows.

Yeah but when the heat from the fire wall and or under car exhaust and in my case, side pipes starts heat-en up the foot well's and door sills... It's nice to have those vents open and that cool air come-en in to cool off the family jewels...

A/C cools them better than the vents for sure! Just turn the BLOWER way up

Make sure your REAR HOOD SEAL is sealing. That is the biggest problem with warm air entering the vents. Also install new Vent Seals (cheap). Then you have A/C, window and lower vents as options.

Yikes Ken ! The solution would be for both you and Triple C to use the bathroom before you leave the house !

I didn't necessarily mean that I was the one with the gas problem!

Can't speak for Ken, however.

Rear hood seal is perfect. Where did you find the seals? Looks like they will cover the vent? Are there cut-outs? The air coming in is not hot, luke warm like outside air. And not much but enough that I can feel a draft while driving with shorts on. I am probably being a little **** cause it isn't much but bugs me since I replaced the grommets and boot for the clutch rod to seal everything on the firewall.

i'm not sure how those air vent seal kits mount........

it looks like it would be rather painful and i think they are somewhat over sized

I'm with Triple C, I said someone in my car not pointing to myself although I do let one go once in awhile But even at home I don't run to the bathroom for a little loss of air pressure
