Not sure it matters for your question, but what year are you asking about?
This picture of my 62 shows approximately where that clip should be, although you have to use your imagination to guess where the clip ended up

Starting at the rear, count 4 screws forward on the LH side. This puts the U-clip near the area of the arc for the dipstick tube.
On the RH side, count 5 screws forward. Both locations have the U facing down. Both locations will turn out to be at the apex of the boomerang ignition shield. Install the heat shields, the U-clips, the wires for 2 & 4, then the RH boomerang before you install the starter.
