Wheels and Tires for my 64
All,
I am considering putting 17 inch American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels on my 64. Can anyone suggest a tire that will fill up the wheel well? Do not want a low profile, for it will actually make the wheel look smaller with more wheel well exposed. I currently have 15 inch wheels with BFG Radial TAs. Love the tires but they are not offered in a 17. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

These are on a '65 which has DISK BRAKES !!! Not sure if they would be the same for DRUM BRAKES.

"Stock" tires are 27.4 inches tall (at least in '65, I don't think '64 is different). Most tire sites list the specs for the tires. With the 225/50 above you'd have about 3/4" more space between top of tire and wheel well compared to "stock" tire.

I really like Black Magic's set up with the 225/50/v/17 tires, but you can't get that 17" wheel from American Racing in chrome. I just ordered a set of 17"x 7 chrome Cragars from www.newstalgiawheel.com The new Cragar 610SS series wheels are only $250ea. I bought a tire and wheel pkg for well under $2K. Check it out.

American Racing doesn't actually provide Chromed TTII's however they will ship them to a Chromer for you. That was the process when I bought mine a few years ago but that may have changed now. So I went with the polished aluminum. One side note. Just because they look like they will fill the fenders on one car does not mean the same setup will reach the desired results on another Midyear.
There are a few cars here on the site that have the same tire and wheel setup but look like 4x4's. If your tires don't fill the fenders now (b/c your car sits high) than going to 17x7 and 225/50/17 tires will not correct this. If anything it will actually make the car look like it's setting higher.
