Default hyd lifter adjustment

I am sure that there is many ways to adjust hyd lifters.I replaced my cam a while back. I am going to check them,I known if they were adjusted correctly I should not have to do it.It sound that one or two are making more noise then they should.I have a cover that I put on with the top cut out so I do it with the engine running.I have tried other ways but I feel good about this way. My concern is that the lifters may not be pumped up when doing it static any input Thanks .......Vince

I adjust hydraulic lifters running as well. Loosening them up until they clatter, tighten them down until they are quiet, shut off the engine, tighten each an additional 1/2 turn, then do the same on the other side. There are probably a lot of ways to adjust them but this has worked for me for 40 years. Now solid lifters are a different story.

I adjust them cold. Loosen until push rod spins freely, tighten until you feel pressure while rotating the push rod, then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turn more and move on. Make sure you use the right sequence of bumping the motor and checking the rocker to make sure the valve is closed.

I Like the adjust while running method, you can also check to see if each rocker arm is getting oil. I use the clips on the rocker arms to avoid oil splash. Very simple, you know the lifters are pumped up and the clatter is very easy to hear.

I adjust them cold also. There is no need for them to be pumped up. The lifter has a spring inside it and this is what you are adjusting the rocker to.
