Tired of driving in the dark! Looking for some kind of upgrade for my C1. Current halogen bulbs are 37.5/50 and they just don't cut it. Can't go hog wild since I am still using a generator but want SOMETHING/ANYTHING better. Saw some better Sylvania bulbs in a parts store today but no small round ones. Don't think my electrical system could stand something like the 100Watt Hella. Like to find a decent compromise. Thanks, Bob
Already did that a couple weeks ago. With only 37.5 watts to work with (on low beam) improvement was marginal. Now I have slightly brighter candles. Yes, it did improve the high beams a little more but that's not where the problem is. Bob
If you want instant daylight try a couple of GE 4537 aircraft landing lights in the inside high beam buckets... Google the number for more details on there purchase.
I have done this to several cars including Vetts. Guaranteed to not out run these brights..
I got a pair of Hella European style low beams with H4 halogen 55/65 watt bulbs and put them on a relay in my Camaro, and they were a significant improvement.
I run H4 halogens in my 57 with no modifications whatsoever. (I am looking for a pair of old Cibie units to match the vintage of my car...)
I ran Tung-Sol landing lights as brights on my 67 Olds F-85. When I hit the switch...daylight! However, I also heard the alternator cry! After a bit the relay tripped and...NO lights at all I learned to use the brights with prudence. BTW, those landing lights are still out in the garage.

This is correct, as "some" switches are not strong enough to handle the load of a landing lamp after a few minutes. This undesirable feature never applied to Corvette headlight switches. A friend purchased a pair from me with a Pontiac GP. Being a GM mechanics, he solved that with strands of copper wire across the Pontiac's switch thereby increasing the switches load capacity.
Ford applications were not affected. And the problem with the F85 above is immediately solved by the use of the dimmer switch back to low beams. There is actually a warning to switch to dims as they will start to blink. They never affected any year of the Vettes where applicable. ie {4 round lites 58-82 }.
