Default Battery Tender Plus question

I use a Battery Tender Plus on my swc and leave it hooked up whenever it is in the garage. I've been wondering if that's the best idea because of the self-winding clock stopping and the circuit overloading. The option would be to just use it once a month to refresh (as JohnZ suggested the other day) or to use the cutoff and hook up the battery only. Any thoughts?

Depends greatly on how much you drive the swc. I would think if you drove it on a weekly basis, you wouldn't need the battery tender. Depending of course, on how far you drove it.

On the other hand, if it sits for long periods of time, I would disconnect the battery and hook up the battery tender. Just as a safety precaution, after driving my Vette and parking it in the garage, I disconnect my battery via the "green ****". The clock never has the correct time, but who cares! Guess I could fix that problem with a fused bypass around the battery disconnect.

Also think it is best to only charge after extended periods and not necessary to use a battery tender. If you have the green **** disconnecting is best for extended periods.

My car now has a 7 yrs old battery and sits all Winter long. Fires right up in the Spring as long as I had the battery disconnected via the green ****.

That was related to 6-month winter storage; during the driving season, I don't use the "Battery Tender" at all - not necessary.
