Default Holley 4160 Problems Again

I had some drivablilty problems back in spring that were resolved with a carb rebuild at that time (leaking power valve). Since then, all has been pretty good until recently. Now, im facing similar problems once more with the 4160 on my stock 66 L-79.

Car feels slightly down on power, throttle response is sluggish when accelerating from a constant speed at part throttle, and sometimes bogs/hesitates under these conditions as well.

I took the carb off again today, and am debating sending out to Eric Jackson for a proper rebuild (last rebuilder was very questionable), or purchasing a NOS carb from LI Corvette.

Any thoughts on what direction to go? Also, I want to add a phenolic spacer to eliminate the heat soak problems I have on hot days, what is the best source for this?

THanks!

I've had a 4160 on my 67 327/350 since I bought it in 68. It works fine but I have had to rebuild it several times during that era. I think if you have all original parts and can rebuild it yourself or find someone good locally, that is a better option than a replacement carb. The rebuilder does need to check for warped parts (bowls, metering blocks. main flange) because as these parts get older they sometimes bend and then don't seal well. So get someone that knows what they are doing and have it rebuild and it will run like new (by the way...you can send it back to Holley for rebuild and certification there if you like...see their web page)

"90% of all "Carb problems" are ignition timing problems" (Lars Grimsrud)

I'd verify that your Vac advance can hasn't failed before you send the carb off.

Vacuum advance is OK. The drivablity problems are intermittent, so I was inclined to blame the carb first, but i did veryify I have the correct vacuum cannister per JohnZ and Lars (thank goodness the search utility works again), and that it is functional.

I just pulled the carb and am sending it to Eric Jackson for an overhaul, as I should have done in the first place.
