Default How do you replace pointer for 65 speedometer

Anyone know how to replace the pointer on 65 speedometer? Pointer will not come off easily, don't want to break anything. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

John, it's basically a 'press fit' but after being in place for a lot of years, they can be very stubborn to remove. Most times, I just grab it with my fingers and try to pull with just a 'little' side to side rocking motion. So far, I've been lucky and it eventually breaks free but I had been envisioning some sort of soft towel laid on the gauge face and then some sort of lever/pry bar device to free it but with my luck (mostly bad) I figure I'd dent the face or damage the needle so I just try a bit harder to pull it off with my fingers and that's worked (knock on wood).

For future referance: Never pull straight up on the needle, you can break the speed cup. Turn the needle counter-clockwise and pull up gently on the needle as if you were unscrewing it. When re-installing, turn the needle counter-clockwise while pushing down until the needle rests at zero.
