Also 11.5-12:1 compression/racing gas would help quite a bit.

450 RWHP is about 540 SAE gross (lab dyno) HP for reference. That is what an original L88 put out.

Now the new model heads and roller cam will give you a much wider torque curve that an L88 ever had,a nd it will be much more drivable on the street and your average torque will probably be higher, which makes for a faster car.

Doug,

If you go back to my post, you'll see that I edited it, probably while you were writing the reply which I am quoting! More conservatively looking for about 430 RWHP out of the 383 (about 515 SAE gross).
Aren't you selling the Z28 intake short? This manifold is a very big dual plane intake. It's design is comparable to, if not better than the current Edelbrock Performer RPM series. This intake manifold can be used without exhaust crossover, and can be ported if necessary to boost flowrates.

Here is one of several "turnkey" engines being offered, most of which use variations of Edelbrock Performer RPM intakes:

http://www.amerspeed.com/scgi-bin/sh...EngineTypeID=3

RPM intakes are used on all engines up to 545 HP (gross). They also use mild hydraulic rollers (low CR of 9.6:1!)

Things start getting wild when you go to 565 and over. Only then does the single plane intake begin to be employed (Victor Jr.)

Make sure that manifold, carb and a 3" tall air filter element will fit under your hood. You can use a drop base air cleaner. A 2" tall filter element won't flow enough air over 5000 RPM and will choke your motor. Get a stinger hood if you need to, they look cool anyway.

Manifold height is what is killing my high RPM output, the shorty Vic Jr., and thin (relative to a carb) T-body and air cleaner clears my hood by about 1/8".

I need the 1" taller Vic Jr, and really an additional 1" over that to get full perf out of my motor, each inch of manifold height will extend the torque curve maybe 500 RPM, and of course, HP is a function of torque times RPM.

Doug,

I have 13/16" hood clearance at the closest point, to 1 7/16 at widest point, right now, with the L76 in completely "as-new" config.
The Z28 intake is (about) 1/2" taller than the stock "461" L76 intake. Dual feed, double pumper Holley 750 model 0-80528-1, which I would use for this application, has no choke horn. Drop base air cleaner from 66-67 SBC can probably be made to fit. Otherwise, 67BBC air cleaner will be modified. So long as the carb fits, I'll find a way to adapt an open element air cleaner to it.
If the fit is 1/4" shy, or less........I'll add shims and lift the entire body to gain the 1/4"! Otherwise, I'll use the 65 BBC hood, which I like better than the stinger.

The Edelbrock RPM is notated as won't fit under a stock Corvette hood, thus my cautionary statement. Yeah, the 65/66 bump hoods look great too, of course it won't be as stealthy then...

Have fun, i ams ure you will find it an improvement over the 327.

May I jump in with a quick comment? ZZ383 with RPM Air Gap and 750 Holley double pump carb. Barely fits under my stock small block hood using the K&N open top air filter. I needed that filter to get enough air into the top of the carb. Otherwise it was looking like a "stinger" which I was not ready to lay out $2k for at the moment. I like them, but there is a budget.

Good luck with your car.
