Voltage regulator VR715
I replaced the old mechanical regulator on my 65 with a solid state VR715 after reading the posts about the unit. The battery became so discharged (a yellow top Optima) that the wipers wouldn't run. I recharged the battery and the car fired right up. The needle on the amp gauge looked like a blur going from plus to minus. I put the original regulator back on and the everything is OK. Any comments on the VR715? Just a bad one? any feed back appreciated.

Bet you got a bad one. Take it to one of the chain parts stores and they'll check it for free. If it is bad just round file it and get another as they are cheap enough.
The original mechanical regulator will someday stick
and cook the $^! out of your battery. Put that pup on the shelf if you need it for originality.
