Default Engine Compartment Help

Need help: Dave from Daves Small Body HEIs is converting an old tach drive distributor to HEI. The HEI module is going to be mounted on the firewall and I need to give him a length for the wire looms from the distrib to firewall.

(a) is this a good idea to mount on the firewall? not sure where I would mount on the engine. My rational for mounting on the firewall is to use the original ignition shielding.
(b) what is a general distance between the distrib and somewhere on the firewall where I could mount the module? I assume just below the wiper motor.

Just had a MSD ignition installed on my 64 and the guy installed it on the drivers side near the washer water bottle. He said it needs to be as far away from heat source as you can get it.

Since my body is off, I dont have a good way to measure this distance. Can you give me an estimate in inches?
