Dennis, I agree. Many “inconsistencies” with this puppy. Another “one-of-one” perhaps? Here is my quick read on it:
Not an original side exhaust car – VIN about a month too early.
VIN tag (and rivets) are a joke, as you pointed out.
Not an original PW car. ECL’s do not support that option on a base car.
gonna have to add that to my gallery of foolishness.
I do respect the seller for putting up a pic of the VIN though, better to just get it out of the way now, rather than suprise the buyer with it later . . .
What is an ECL? And, what is a base car in this situation?
ecl refers to a code that was used on the broadcast sheet that helped assembly line workers put the correct pieces in the car for it's intended configuration. In this case (trim tags) a560156 is referring to the two-letter code that appears after the interior trim code - here, "AA" follows 426. 426 = Silver - Vinyl, and "AA" is the standard interior ecl, meaning this car did not come with things that would have required non-standard interior trim (such as PW, which require different interior trim pieces to accommodate - no crank handle, and the PW switches).
So is it stolen or a previous theft recovery? Plate looks very "governmental" not like its trying to look like anything but a number. Surprising if its previous theft recovery, seller wouldn't say something. They may not know.
Current price seems to indicate everyone is afraid of this car. Interesting how a part so small on this car has become such an important point.

I have to disagree with the "looks governmental" part about the VIN tag. I have seen state issues VIN tags from a dozen or so states over the years (on many types of cars, not just Vettes) and every one I have seen also identified the state that issued the tag. This one has nothing but a number.
Certainly could be an "official" VIN tag, but I seriously doubt it. Any machine shop can make a tag that looks like this. A lot of private individuals can do it as well.
I've sent a question to the seller on ebay. So we will know a little more in a while.
I've never seen a state issued tag. But your right it would make sense that it would say "State of California" or something and probably not be the shape of a Corvette Vin number plate. They might also have some sort of special rivit too.
Indiana issues paperwork with an assigned vin number. Instructions are given to have a tag engraved. They recommend a trophy shop.... Police come to your house and sign off on the paperpwork. A title is then issued.
Surprising if its previous theft recovery, seller wouldn't say something. They may not know.

What is so important is not the small part, but the story (or lack of in this case) about how this car came to have that small part. If the seller would include a plausible and honest explanation of what happened to the original VIN tag it would probably increase the interest in his auction a great deal.
For future reference when searching the VIN being discussed is 194375S107811.
Agree that the seller may not know. The guy looks pretty good, 472 e-bay transactions with 100% positive feedback. That's a point in his favor, at least in my book!
This is getting more interesting by the moment. I just checked my e-mail, no response to my earlier question to the seller. The e-bay site listing 6 question does not have it and I don't think Philip964's question is listed....uuummmhhh? Dennis
Philip964 I also sent an e-mail to the seller before I posted here....no response as of this post. Dennis
Its been 12 hours since my message to the seller, no response yet.
I'm not the brightest about all the numbers like everyone else, but the Vin number 194375S107811 the S and after is right, but before the S, is not a Corvette. Right? and the number should start with a 5 since its a 65.
