The guy I bought the 54 from as some of you know also has a nice 55 F**D vert in his garage he's keeping for now. He also has a beautiful 55 chev vert which he gave to his daughter years ago. Just prior to giving it away he put a rebuilt 283 in it. Sitting in the corner of his garage is the original complete 265. Was smoking when removed. Complete pan to intake. He just called and said to come up with a figure and come get it. What do you guys think?

First, you have to have a car to match the numbers with to make the engine worth above average.
Second is the rebuild costs.

Sounds like a better purchase than collector plates.

That pup is sitting in the corner because a 283 was better than a 265. By the same token a 327 is better than a 283. A 350 is etc. etc.

Wait a minute. You could use the 265 heads on a 350 and get horrendous compression ratio with cheap flat top pistons.

Oh, yeah, with those humongous 265 intake ports, that thing out to breath like nothing you ever saw before.

Those 265 ports are what, about 3/4" wide by 1.2" tall, or something? I haven't looked at 265 heads since about 1974

not much value in a 265. i've got one, from my 55 vert. thats the only reason i'm keeping it.

Depends on the actual numbers on the block. If its a car block it will be F55F or T55F. If its a Corvette block it has a F55FG stamp is is one of 700 55 corvette blocks and could be a little more desireable. Worth a check.

Real easy to add a "G" if you have a 55 Vette.
