Do you know if that was zinc or phosphorus? The CJ-4 limit for phosphorus is 1100 ppm, so if the lab is right, their oil is exceeding the spec.
The Delo 15/40 CJ was 1360 Z and 1115 P. Another test cited showed 1191/1033 for the same oil so I don't think those numbers are carved in granite. The Rotella 30w CJ also tested well but not the 15/40. Another thing noted was that the detergent levels of the CJ Delo were much lower than the CI version.
I'd like to know the name of the lab that reported a CJ-4 oil with over 1200 ppm ZDDP. The EPA would be all over the oil producer since CJ-4 diesel oil is approved for the low emissions newer diesel fuel and cannot have a high level of ZDDP. CI-4 DOES have the level of ZDDP that is required in our C1 and C2 engines. The old CI-4 Rottela for example has been a mainstay for our engines--the new Rotella, CJ-4 does not contain the level of ZDDP required.
I think Blackstone was the lab he used. There were several racing oils that also tested above 1200. The subject has been covered on the Chevelle forum probably as much or more as here. Scott Wheaton was the forum member that had the tests done. Look for his posts and you'll find all the test results.

Thanks, I suspected the higher number was zinc, not the phosphorus which is actually what is limited. I've also noted some lab variance in the samples I've done or seen as well, so 1115 or 1033 both appear to be within what I'd consider reasonable lab tolerance.

Blackstone is a well respected testing lab. They primarily test airplane and diesel fleet operators oil. You send your drain oil into them in their test kit and they tell you the results. Results from your engine and oil, not what's in the manufacturers container.
We don't want to mix apples and oranges into this discussion of the amount of zinc and phosphorus in a praticular brand of oil. The manufactures make it hard enough to find out the information. As an example: On Mobil's web site they show that Mobil 1 Tubro Diesel Truck oil has 0.12 phosporus. Same site, Mobil 1 15w50, no phosporous level shown.
Chevron does a better job on giving information: Chevron Delo 400 LE Synthetic 5w40 has 0.114 ph and 0.127 zn. Their Delo 400 LE 15w40 has 0.12 ph and 0.13 zn. You need to check the manufactures specs.
