Timing light
I am not very experienced however I want to install my6 distributor which was removed for rebuild. I need a timing light. I made the rounds of the auto parts stores & the timing lights at each store are either $40, $70 or $100 depending on features. What one do I really need?
Also, a guy at Pep Boys tried to sell me a timing tape to put on the harmonic balancer. Is a harmonic tape worth it?
I have a 67 L79.

I have an Actron that I got at Sears for $50. It has a dial back for adjusting advance. It is a very good light for me.
The timing tape is more useful if you don't have a dial back light. If you have dial back you don't need the tape.

Like Joel says, with a dial back light you don't need the tape, plus it's easier with the dial back light

I have an Actron CP-7519 dial-back light - works great! Actron also makes the Sears timing light.
