'66 327.....with an Edelbrock manifold. I want to put the distributor shielding on it. Can this be done? My coil mounts to top of the manfold behind the carb. Looks like the originals are mounted on the right hand side.....? Where does the coil bracket bolt to on the original? Thanks for any help.
The stock shielding will work fine, but you need the passenger side plug wire support, which includes the coil mounting clamp (and the weld nuts to attach the vertical shield); Corvette coils didn't mount to the manifold. If your existing driver's side plug wire support doesn't have the weld nuts on it to attach the shielding (top and side), you'll need that one too - all the usual vendors have them.
Thanks.........But...where does the wire support/coil bracket mount to?
You will need both the drivers and passenger side brackets to put the shielding on. You also need the proper in-line grommets to pass the wires through and of course the three wing nuts.
They mount to the mainfold and are held in-place by the manifold mounting bolts toward the rear with the coil on the passenger side. The original manifolds actually have a small indentation in this position and there is a small tab at the bottom of the brackets that goes into the indentation. I think the purpose was to keep the bracket from swiveling around. You may have to bend/remove the tab(s). BTW, this is an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold in the picture.
Thanks for the picture.....Are you using the chrome side pieces, or just the top piece and the coil bracket? Sorry for asking so many questions
Just the top and two brackets to hold it and the coil, and route the wires. The top piece really cleans up the engine compartment. If you run the sides/bottoms you end up with longer spark plug wires = more resistance = less spark energy.
(Besides, I like the look like this and have had the shield polished since the pic. )
One more question.......What holds the driver side of the top piece?
This is the drivers side mount without the coil bracket. The hole at the bottom (on the right) is used to mount this bracket to the manifold (note the tabs I mentioned). The holes next to the elongated cutout and on top are threaded. There is a wing nut that goes through the shield and into these holes that holds the shield in place.
This is the passenger side with the coil bracket.
This is the grommet that goes in the elongated cutout and routes the wires.
There is also a wing nut on the top of the drivers side into the shield. You can see the two wingnuts (front and top) on the drivers side in this pic.
