C2 of Year Finalist (track prepared) 2019
2017 C2 of the Year Finalist
I can't stand the C2 designation.
the C4 started this stuff because 'solid axle' 'mid-year' and 'shark' were followed by 'areo-nondescript' 'rx-7 like' and 'ferrari-viper love child'
which is too hard for guys to remember.
who knew when the stretched the shark out for 14 years, and then took a year off completely, it was because they were out of styling ideas ??

NOT!
Not even close!
The 53-62 cars are literally ancient technology, barely beyond WWII design. For example, the entire front suspension dates back to the 49 Chevy pass car, which most likely, the GM engineering/design staff began working on it very soon after 1945-46.
The rearend is BARELY beyound the pre-WWII design. Up through 1954, the pass cars used a torque tube design rearend which was in use prior to the war.
The 53-55 rear axle housing is essentially a 49-54 pass car housing, axles and differential. The 53-55 Vette third member is a 49-54 pass car third member, but with the torque tube removed and replaced with an open driveshaft/U-joint. In 55, on the pass cars, this same design rear was continued, but with some changes/upgrades. The 55-57 pass car and 56-62 Vette complete rear axle housing assembly are virtually identical.
And then, for 1963, EVERYTHING changed! With the exception of the V8 engine design, absolutely nothing is the same between any of the 53-62 Vettes and the 63 later cars.
OH! I'm sorry, there is ONE similarity between them, they all have hoods that are hinged at the front.
Close????????????????????
Not even!
The 53 Vette is a different car from the 54 and 55. ACTUALLY, all three are different! The 54 and the 55 6cyl cars are quite similar because they are both 6cyl and 6volt. That equals about 1% of the 55s.
The 56 and 57 are VERY similar, but not the same.
The 58 is kind of by itself.
The 59-60 are VERY similar.
The 61 and 62 are kind of similar, but have LOTS of differences.
The 63, the 64, the 65, the 66 and the 67 all have many differences.
So, when you say C1, just exactly what are you talking about? A 6cyl, 6v car, or a 327 fuel injected car?
When you're referring to a C2 with a carb, are you talking about one with a WCFB, or one with alum heads and 3 Holleys?
Referring to a Corvette by the year model, rather than a "C" catagory immediately makes it more easy to recognize what is being asked about the car in question.
And again, nothing is close about a 53-62 or a 63-67. And we won't even talk about the body differences. The differences are night and day.
So, stop calling them Cs, and call them what they are.
Not even close!

I'm not referring to the C1, C2, C3, etc sections on Corvetteforum, I'm referring to when someone asks about (for example) the windshiled on their C1. There are differences between the different windshields/frames between 53 through 62 cars.
