I got my '67 dash ***** (radio, heater, etc.) re-done today; the black paint had all worn off. After masking one ****, priming it, then painting it, I removed the tape to clean out the excess paint from the little groove with a toothpick and laquer thinner.
What a tedious job getting the paint out of the groove! And I couldn't get it all out because there was some very minor pitting there. Got to be a better way, I thought. So I bought some black, round file folder labels and painted them with semi-gloss (2 light coats). The 3/4" size is perfect; stick 'em on, and there's a perfect edge all around with no paint in the groove. Plus, the stick-on hides any minor imperfections in the chrome.
If they wear off, just remove them and put on new ones; I painted a whole sheet of them. The glue is pretty tough stuff. (And before any of you wise azzes make the obvious joke, no, I will not do your *****!)
