I'm thinking about buying a proper date coded rear end case for my 66 small block. The differential I have isn't correct for my car. My question is.... how hard is it to exchange the rear end gear from my old one to the new one, what is involved in doing this? Anyone have a step by step process of this? The rear end is already out of the car.
Thanks!

You'll have to have it setup just like rebuild. I would set the date coded correct one on the shelf for future use. Great find by the way..

That isn't a job for the average home mechanic - requires special tools and knowledge to set up a ring and pinion correctly; I'd let a pro do it.
check out www.duntovmotors.com They specialize in corvette differentials. They can rebuild yours, or take it in as a core for one they have remanufactured.

Contact Gary Ramadei (GTR1999). Gary just finished building a differential for my 64 and he'll do it right the first time! You'll be hard pressed to find such quality workmanship and service for the price and he’ll build your stock date coded diff better than new or whatever you may want.
