I looked at everything I could find, including the ram jet, and settled on a stock tpi set up. I do not have it installed yet but will be starting soon.
I've got the TPIS mini ram installed on my ZZ4 engine. Before this, I had the GM TPI system (with custom port & hone) from a 89 vette. Both are great, but have different results. If you want low-end torque, go with a GM TPI. If you want mid range and up HP, go with the TPIS type system. One thing to consider is what electronics are you going to use to run it. I have a 1989 GM OBD1 computer. Pretty straight forward system, but hard to custom tune. The newer systems are much easier, using real time data connected to a laptop, and once you get your optimum tune you just save the program. One of my future upgrades will be changing out my OBD1 for the Excel DFI engine management system (real nice!!).
Here is a great article to read on different EFI Systems.
I agree with the hood clearance issue. The TPIS MR fits fine. The Holley won't fit. The GM TPI fit fine. The excell pro-ram fits fine. If you are interested in the GM TPI without the computer, shoot me a PM.
silverslash- What are you using for your throttle linkage?
I used a stock Camaro throttle cable and cut the back part off and pu a Lokar heim joint on the end and bolted it to the stock bell crank. I had to bend the bell crank over about 3/4 of and inch to the inside so the cable could run under the tubes. Then I made a small bracket to hold the cable. I have pictures but can not make them work, I will try later. Hope this helps.
I have been running this stock TPI for over 10 years with good drive ability and great throttle response. It also clears the hood just fine.
Hey Jeff:
That's still a great looking engine compartment.
I'm in the process of converting the rear brakes to discs like I should have done when I had it apart. Be back on the road in a week or so. Like you said, a real pleasure to drive with the TPI on it.
