Looks like I just trashed my second POS imported P/W switch. I just went to get in the car and battery is dead. Did some checking around and noticed the drain was from the power windows, and reached for the switch and there it was flopping around. I disconnected the wire to the fuseblock, so I can drive it, but only when no rain is in the forecast. So, while I am charging the battery, I am making this post to see if anybody has an original they are willing to part with (reasonably), or if there is a cure while using the imported ones. It's not a difficult job to replace, but I would prefer only doing this drill one more time. Any suggestions? Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.
The 63-67 power window switch is still available from GM. The part # is 4434589 and the current list is about $77.00. I'm not sure where these are being made. GM is sorcing an awful lot of parts from Mexico and Korea now, but I'd guess that these are old inventory. I can't believe that there is enough demand for this switch to make it worth while for GM to tool up to produce overseas. I don't have any in stock myself right now, or I'd check the box for a "made in" label for you.
From the information in this post, found a switch on eBay listed as NOS. Ad showed a picture of the switch and a picture of a GM box with the number 4434589 as the part number. Got the switch for $50 and $6 shipping.
When it arrived, the box and switch were as pictured in the ad. However, when I looked at the back of the switch it had a part number of 5719258. First thought was that I got ripped off.
In checking the various vendors, Corvette Central had pictures of the front and back of the switch they sell. The Corvette Central picture of the back showed the same 5719258 number stamped on it. So I called Corvette Central and asked about the switch.
The guy I talked to said he was sure it was an aftermarket switch but he could check to see where they got it from. He came back a minute later and said he was surprised to find that they got it from GM.
As pointed out in a previous post, that doesn't resolve the issue of where it is made.
Just thought I would pass this along to save the next guy from doing the same research I did.
