That's what I meant - should have been more specific about years.

Well I searched until my eyes started to bleed. Can't find any manufacturers or vendors that are aware of this. Here are a few samples.

H. Paulin

Corvette Central

Even "Headbolts.Com" http://headbolts.com/chevysb.html

I give up.

Default head bolts

all 265 and early 283 engines had two length's . there was a head change and it could have happened when they went away with staggered valve cover bolts , anyway the two intermediate head bolts were used later and at the end of each head....sounds like you have an early 283 ..

Why would you not accept the Chevrolet catalog from 1957 pictured in post 18?

Your 3" bolt would not even fasten to the block as shown in post 18.

John, Good try looking. Amazing isnt it. Corvette central knows about this. Went thru same problem until they listened to what the facts were. They stated that a new part# will be created . Your pic was a little blurry. I couldnt make it out. Thanks for your effort.

I DO accept the Chevrolet catalog. The point that I was trying to make was that the manufacturers and vendors and a whole lot of old small block chevy owners are not aware of this.

Did I make myself clear this time?

The last line in the catalog, post 18 reads:
57 ALL,CORV. (8 cyl) long (7/16-14x3 3/4)(raised circle on top of head)
3741278 18 .15

The key is 18 long bolts vs 14 for later heads. There were no intermediate (3") bolt listed since they were not used at that time.

By the way, what are your favorite Doors songs. Have you listened to their uncut version of Gloria on you tube?
Good luck

Default head bolts.

No, I have not heard Gloria yet. I like most all Doors records. However, Light My Fire the LONG version seems to take me back.
