I just about have my hard top rebuilt. New window is in along with all the stainless trim. New weather strips are almost finished... Just a couple hours more and I'll be there..
I wonder if I should put a layer of dynamat in the top before I put the new head liner in? Has anyone done this? I have it in through the bottom and love the way it took the road noise and high temps out of the car.
I am at about the same point as you in my hardtop rebuild and have the same question. My concern is if the headliner will glue to the Dynamat and not pull away over time. On the floor, the carpet just sits on it, on the top, the headliner has to fight gravity always wanting to pull away. This worrys me
If im right? the headliner is not glued to the hardtop...the "board" that the foam is applied to is supposed to be rigid enough to hold it in place albeit for a period of about from what ive heard of 5 years before it wants to start sagging.
66 jack, you are correct. The headliner is held in place by the stiffness of the material - not glue. I would make sure before putting anything under the headliner that there is enough room for both items, especially along the side tabs of the headliner. I had a tough time getting those areas to go in place when I replaced mine on my 67. Not sure if additional material in that area might not make it even more difficult.
