I am disassembling a 283 and have removed all main caps except the rear one. What is the secret to getting this one out? I have removed the oil pump and the two retaining bolts, but there seems to be a pin of some sort holding the left side in place. This is my first time breaking one of these down and I don't want to screw something up. I have all of the pistons out except the front and rear on the same side. The crank is prohibiting me from getting at the studs. Thanks for the help.

Don't forget to mark all the main caps in numerical order what web they came off of. Same way with the rod caps or whoever puts that back together will have a mess.

No mixing matched parts!

The main caps are marked from the factory. I did not believe it. Gayle Parsons told me to look. They are faint but they are there. Takes the fear out of assembly.

What is the best procedure to mark rods and caps?
A small number punch, mark the rod and the cap where it parts. On the outside is the place I mark them.
