Default removing instrument cluster on my 59?

The diagrams that I have show just four nuts to remove the lower instrument cluster. Any suggestions from others who have done this? There isn't much room under there... Thanks, 59 Navy

If by lower instrument cluster, you mean only the part with the 4 small gauges and the tach in it - I don't think you can get that off without first removing the entire cluster assembly.

For any dash work on your 59, pull the instrument cluster as a unit before attempting to try to disassemble it. Once you have all the wires removed and tagged, it's only 5 bolts I believe that are holding it to the dash. Be sure to disconnect the battery first. Pilot Dan

Don't forget the headlight switch has a little button on the bottom of it, behind the cluster that allows the **** to be withdrawn when pressing in on the button (folks seem to not know this for some reason). The ignition comes out by putting in the key turning it to the LOCK position and inserting a paper clip in the little hole in the front of the cylinder and pulling out on the key.

Note the locations of the ground wire to the cluster and the attachment of any capacitors on the rear of the cluster during disassembly. Put a thick towel over the steering column (to save the paint) when wrestling the cluster housing out of the dash.

What year car? You may have better luck starting a thread with the year of your car in the title, as opposed to replying to a 3 year old thread.

If its a later C1 '58-'62 then I believe this is what you are asking about -- should be a black wire mounted on the driver's side of the speedo housing. If its an earlier C1 - I haven't a clue.

Here is a link to an article I did on dash removal and installation. Scroll down to the second to last page and I believe that is what you are looking for.

Yes, it goes under the drivers side speedometer mounting screw. Pilot Dan

Here's a picture of the 5 to remove the whole assembly and the 4 to remove the lower housing.
