Default 1967 pulley question

Thanks for all the replies from my last post. Well i've run into my first of many problems with the car. I have a 1967 327 coupe with air . Well, I finally had a few extra dollars to work on it (i’m a poor 27 year old Regional Airline Pilot ) and I recently bought a new dewitts radiator for the car (so much for my extra money). When I was putting it back together I noticed that the lower pulleys didn’t match up. I think over the years somehow I have the wrong ones. If I remember correctly when my father and I took off the pulleys five years ago, the power steering pulley had to be shimmed way out in order to work, that’s why I think they are wrong. The power steering pulley is a single channel # 3751232 BB, and the crankshaft pulley is a double channel pulley # 3858533 8J. Are these correct for my car? Also i’m having trouble figuring out how they go back on the motor. I have an assembly manual, but it doesn’t show much for this. From what I can see, there’s one bolt and lock washer that holds on the crankshaft pulley, but I also have a thick spacer type washer that was on that bolt to create a space between the two pulleys. I’m not sure if this washer is correct. Then I have 3 bolts with 2 washers to bolt the power steering pulley to the crankshaft pulley. Well, i'm totally confused know, but any information I can get would be a great.

Thanks,
Larry

Thanks larry :nopity :nopity :nopity :nopity :nopity :nopity

Default Re: 1967 pulley question (lwick74)

Here's a little information, confusing though it may be.

My old ('76) parts book shows pwr steering pulley 3770509 for a 327... no mention of 3751232, although I suppose the original pulley could have been superceded, nor is there any mention of a different pulley for the '67 based on options (there ARE different ones for some other years depending on some options).

It says the crank pulley for hi-perf (solid lifters) 327 without p/s should be double pulley 3858533 (although the book says it is stamped 3766987); it calls for 3850838 (no mention of stamp) for p/s with a/c on a hi-perf engine (solid lifters) and 3751232 (stamped as such) front pulley w/out hi-perf.

In the belt section, the parts manual has a very confusing section... if I interpret it correctly, there should be 3 pulley grooves on the crankshaft, and I think the third is simply a single-groove pulley that bolts on top of a 2-groove pulley.

You don't describe your belt/pulley setup in detail. If the power steering was added on, perhaps the setup was cobbled together at that time. I think you should have 3 belts (a/c, alternator, and p/s) corresponding to 3 grooves on crank, and there should be 2 grooves on the water pump pulley. Vendors like Corvette Central offer the add-on (third groove) power steering pulley for the crank. The power steering belt only connects crank to p/s pump, the other two go around 3 pulleys, including the water pump.

Spacer washers do not sound correct to me... if the above seems to match your car, is it at all possible the power steering pulley might be offset slightly, so that it could be mounted either way to move the groove closer/farther from the pump? Or perhaps you're missing one pulley groove on the crank? Bolts with lockwashers should be all that's required to attach pulleys.
