Try checking the carb to see if it's operating properly....
You really should have no trouble doing a burn out..unless maybe you have 16" wide slicks mounted..
I agree. My 69 327 / 300hp will flat out smoke the tires. Dump the clutch at about 3500 and floor it. Will smoke through 2 gears almost 3!
My 66 with a pooch 305 Z28 motor will smoke them too. All with radials.
I haven't been in a 327 with a clutch that I couldn't smoke the tires.
My 327/350 horse 68 with turbo 350 will break the tires loose with a stock converter. I think you are bogging down a little.
Thanks guys for all the replies. The tires are brand new radials and this is a numbers matching one owner original car so although I have tried somewhat I have not dumped the clutch at 5000 rpm. My old 1970 350/350 with 3:70 gears was just so easy to do burnouts. I still am having a timing issue and as soon as I get it figured out I will see where I stand. I know it pulls great at the high rpms and does not lay over anywhere near 5500rpm. Never had a car with 3:36 gears and this is probably the issue. Anyway I am not wanting to do burnouts all the time. Was just wondering if I had some HP lying around thst I could pickup with a carb tune and timing correction. Thanks for all the interesting responses.

My first car was a 56 BelAir. Had a one-legged 4.11 rear and 3-speed. It wouldn't hardly chirp the tires until I installed a rebuilt clutch. Did great, then. I am thinking you may have a tired clutch, and it is slipping just enough to bog the engine.
