Getting ready to start on the 'ol winter projects, as January and February are our worst winter months. I've read numerous threads about making a home made penetrating oil with a 50-50 mix of Acetone and ATF, but I can't recall a response from anyone that has actually tried it. Anyone have any luck with this mix??
Thanks in advance for any and all responses, and most of all -
A safe, happy and prosperous holiday season to you and your families!

There was a recent post on this forum regarding just that, and if I recall correctly, some anecdotal testimony regarding its superiority over most other penetrating oils. It's been within the past month, try doing a search and see what you're able to find, my suggestion!

I was skeptical of this mix but recently tried a batch on a Frozen bolt assembly that did not respond to either heat or penentrating oil and gave it another try the next day after soaking and bingo it worked. It does work, but not as easy to use as the long straw on the can for working in tight places. Off the car, it works very well. Pilot Dan
Thanks for all the replies. I've used Kroil at work and it does a great job, but it's impossible to find in any retail stores in my area. I recall the thread with the info from Mechanics Illustrated magazine, so I thought I'd see if anyone had tried it. New shocks are one of my winter projects, so I was looking for something that might help me out a little more than regular penetrating oil.
Acetone/ATF does and outstanding job but man be careful around paint. I put my mix in a metal squirt can and the little bit that got on the threads of the can (painted) glued the top and the can together to the point I didn't think I would get it apart. Then after a day or so the plastic squirt tubing started melting. That aside I haven't used anything else that works as well.
