Default Paint

I recently bought a 63 SWC that needs paint. I am in search of information as to the proper process to be assured of a fine finish. The car will be either red or silver when done.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill:

Are you planning to do it yourself or have it done?

Lot's of good info in the archives. You can start by going to the C1 AND C2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS near the top of the Forum Page and look through the FAQ for the BODY/PAINT section.

Then try the SEARCH function for "paint" or "paint preparation". If you have additional questions after this, then start a second thread.

Default whats wrong with the paint now

Start with a budget, lets say 10,000

can you desscribe the paint now?

the general process is:
take the car completely apart
strip off the old paint to the glass
repair bodywork
build up an block sand with epoxy primers
sand-prime, sand prime, sand prime
basecoat
clearcoat
color sand
buff to show quality shine!

Did I say 10,000 that with doing alot of labor yourself!

The deal with shops are you have to get out visit them and do the legwork, talk, talk talk. Everyone has a different process and choice of materials. As with anything its best to decide what you want use that as a baseline to be able to compare different shops. References from customers probably mean the most, ahng around other corvette guys.

the majority is labor, the quality is all in the prep. You can probably do alot of the tear down and reassembly yourself (if you have the desire)
