Last night I was watching a Mecum Auction in Indianapolis, not sure of the actual date, but it was 2008. They sold a 1963 split window coupe Z06 Tanker. I noticed that it had a power brake unit. I was surprised that the race car package had power brakes. Can that be? It sold for $225,000. By the way, Terry M. was there buying more Vettes.

Hi Lynn, I saw that program last night too. Good question as I also would think it would not come with power brakes but maybe because it is a TANKER ? I see Terry at all the auctions, he's a regular.
I also watched that episode... the commentary mentioned it as "a big brake" car... "highly optioned tanker"... not sure how accurate that is as he also mis-spoke on how the latches for the top worked...
I've watched a lot of the Mecum auctions on TV that started this last spring and the "analysts" that are on the actual floor looking at the cars and commenting on them are total idiots. Me being the armchair analyst and amateur car nut could do a better job then both of them together. Countless times they got their "facts" wrong on many of the cars coming across the block. Makes you wonder what their qualifications were to become the analysts.

The same applies to the BJ commentators. It is better now since they canned Alan DeCadnut.
Qualifications for being an analysts or working the BJ auctions: early parole and work release programs.
Don't be too hard on Alan, though. He has a depth of knowledge and appreciation of these cars that most analysts do not have. He also used to drive some serious European iron, not the least of which involved Scuderia Ferrari. He may appear to be a dandy, but he has more than ample street creds.
Alan is probably the worlds best expert on European/English cars. That being said, he doesn't know a darn thing about American cars, which happens to be mostly what BJ sells.
That episode was back in April of last year; prices have dropped and Terry at Proteam is now preoccupied with unloading those same cars!
Big (drum) brakes on C1 and early C2 cars up to 64 (disc brakes became available in 65) were very rare. Power brakes were available beginning in 63 so I would assume they could be optioned together.
Big tank option was available on all mid-year coupes and is very rare.
He did a segment on a specialty car that I own (1 of 3) at Monterey a few years ago during the Historics at Laguna Seca. This was a piece of American iron and I thought he did an exceptionally good job in the live presentation. He appeared to have done his homework. I had no argument with what he said.
What they probably should do is have a dugout deep with analysts who can talk about almost anything that comes across the block. No one person can be an expert on all these different marques. That is an unreasonable expectation.

These are old reruns...fun to watch, but not market accurate.
Exactly, lets see how many Terry buys at BJ next week. Even the rich are hurting with a 36% loss to the dow in 2008. Buy em now to keep and enjoy them, still better than a 2% CD after taxes. Pilot Dan

All Z06's had power brakes - it was part of the Z06 package.
