Default leaky chrome valve cover problem

Bought the $50 reusable gaskets and still have to use sealant to stop the oil. Rt bank is fine but left isn't. Experience tells me oil slips through a chome surface easier than non chrome. Will try to remedy by grinding the chrome off the gasket mating surface as a last resort. Problem became worse when I switched to synthetic, which I expected. Anybody out there have a solution? Thanks in advance.

Using Permatex Ultra Copper (101BR) between the gasket and valve cover prevents leaks.

Run a small bead of Ultra Copper around the valve cover and mounting holes then place the gasket on the valve cover and let it set-up.

People tend to overtorque valve covers, distorting the metal and creating leaks and a little sealant should help overcome that.

I'd look at both covers and see if they're "scrunched" at any of the 4 attaching bolt holes.

Chrome metal covers are rather thin, and if you get "ham fisted" putting them on, they'll easily bend under the bolts if you use too much torque.

Don't ask how I know this.
