John,
I don't know the answer to your question, but......do you happen to have a very good shape 'heavy' chrome **** for my '64?
Thanks,
RK
The ones I've seen and had all seem to be the same weight and size. The only different I'm aware of is that the 64-68 ***** were chromed (silver) steel and the 69-81 ***** are steel, black chromed. With time and use, the black chrome wears and the 69-81 ***** start to get a worn out silver chrome look to them. There have been black plastic ***** available from the after market, but these never came on factory shifters. 68-76 shifters differ from 77-81's, the 77-81 shifter has a longer (taller) handle.
65 early (prior to Jan. 65) automatic shifters used a chromed, steel ball where as 65L-82 autos used a black, plastic ball.
