Default hood support

can anyone tell me what sid ethe hood support is supposed to be on for a midyear corvette. I've seen both drivers side and passengers side. Did it vary with the year? engine? options (ie: A/C)?

F.I. cars and A/C cars had them on the passenger side.

It varied by year and option. Up to 66 there was no provision on the drivers side, so all are on the passenger side. Later ones could be either depending on what options and in some cases what time of the year.

I had read that the factory big block hood supports were mounted on the left and small block hood supports mounted on the right. Aftermarket big block hoods had supports that could be mounted on either the right or left.

I believe the only difference between a factory 65 BB hood and a factory 66 BB hood is which side has the support reinforcement plate.

That sounds about right, but I'm not sure about A-C cars where the compressor hoses interfered with the support.

Its a long list of combinations so I didnt list them. I might miss one or two, but in general here is the way it was.

All 63-65 hoods had RH supports period. There was no provision on the LH side. That means AC cars of those years had RH supports. And it also means that 65 BB had a RH support.

In 66 the BB supports were moved to the LH side. A provision was added to the innerfender. But there was some carry over and some 65 BB hoods were used, they could have been mounted on the RH side or on the LH with modification. Some early 66 AC cars had hoods modified to go on the LH side. Other 66-67 cars both AC and non remained on the RH side. Later in 66 BB hoods were re-designed to fit the change to the LH side.
