Default 63 Engine-Correct?

This board is great for getting a handle on what is wrong with things on certain year cars, so here is another chance and appreciate the help.

Below are a few pictures of a engine in a SWC and wanted to know what is right/wrong and suggestions to get it as close to correct without going overboard. The valve covers have the seam running down the "O" which I don't believe is correct for '63. Also, it is not a numbers matching car so keep that in mind.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I blew up the 2nd pic and it looks like a 350 c.i. head, i.e, no pyramid or camel hump. If that's the case, it can be dressed to suit the OP's taste.

looked at again and your correct there is no breather tube from the intake to the air cleaner base either. but the OP did ask about the correctness of the engine compartment

Default '63 Engine Compartment

For starters, incorrect brake master cylinder (correct ones are pretty big bucks). Also, fan clutch incorrect (?)

Jovi, The water neck looks like the up angle is too high as compared to some text books I have and this would led to an incoorect top hose. The vacuum advance line has an odd upward turn, under the choke coil. Dennis

The PCV valve is located at the back of the block in '63. This one looks correct as you can see the hose running from the carb, under the distributor to the correct location.

Dennis you are correct, I bought the correct top hose, but the angle was too great. Just trying to clean it up and make it nice and pretty.

Wiriing on the alternator is wrong, no boot. I would check to see if the alternator is a replacement. Wrong dip stick. The carb return spring, no such thing as "white" return spring. Heater houses using nylon wire wraps they should be metal. Paper filter elements inside air filter, should be foam. Replacement master brake cylinder, no thumb or hex bolt using the bailer clip. Oil filer cap has no center dimple looks like repop. The bypass water plug on top of the water pump does not look correct it should be brass and havhave four diamond logos on the side. Something about the fan blade just does not look right for a 63...are the rivets round or flat? Lacking a lot of both white and black nylon wire wraps, and much of the wire is not harnessed correctly. Finally, the area around the fuel filter, the bypass house going into the intake just does not look right. Appears there is no belt tension wheel...Upper radiator house is replacement, need blue stripe.

Here is some photos of my Engine...NCRS Top Flight...Hope this helps...

Collin,

Thank you for posting your pictures.

I don't see the differences, mine looks exactly the same.

What I noticed other than what was already mentioned is the lack of the rubber tube connecting the carb to the other half of the choke warm up tube, and the lower shielding that goes around the spark plugs. Also, I believe the bolts that hold the spacer blocks to the inner fender lips should not be painted body color. Great looking and original appearing engine compartment. Doesnt look like you have tons of work to do other than clean up.

Isn't that an earlier model intake? My 63 has a high performance 62 manifold which has a similiar thermostat housing.

EBVETTE. Nice job on your engine. Looks awesome. Your return spring looks white. Is it just the picture, or did you change it after judging. I fell into the white spring trap too while doing mine.

Default '63 Engine Compt.

The heater hose fitting on the top of the water pump should go directly into the pump not into a bushing.
