Default Firewall wires

What are the two connectors in this picture? Is either one used for back up lights?

The one circled in yellow looks like the backup light switch, although that big red wire coming out of it is not right.

Here's the backup light connector for my 65

For the moment I can't place that other connector in yoru photo. Not sure if I've seen that before, or what it is used for.

Carlos: The purple wire that is connected with a M/F plug is for a neutral safety switch on an automatic transmission. With a powerglide it would be separated and connected to the N/S harness.

Roy, so the purple ones are pretty much a non issue in my car then, with the 4 speed. I guess M/F means male/female. What does N/S mean? Thanks.

Although I have the back up lights in the rear, I don't have the switch on the tranny and therefore no connection at the firewall. I would like to add it later and was wondering where it goes on the firewall. Now I know it's the connector with the big red wire incorrectly plugged into it. Thank you Jeff.

The big red wire that comes off mine is for the electric fuel pump. It is connected at that connector, goes into the grommet into the car under the dash, then I think it's connected to the ignition, then comes back out thru another grommet into the engine compartment, traversing across the firewall from driver side to passenger side, before disappearing to the back where the pump is. I thought the pump wire was connected at the fuse box, but I checked just now and, yes, there is a red wire plugged into the lower left fuse box spade labeled "RAT". It goes along the carpet line beside the driver's door and goes to the rear of the interior. May be the exhaust fan.

Now, if the back up switch gets plugged to the yellow circled connector, what are those wires already there besides the red one. Since the tranny triggers the backup, I assume the wires go to the white back up lights? My car is dirty but I think the wires are grn/blk and red/blk...not sure.

I'll start another thread asking how to wire the fuel pump (with emergency shut off) correctly, especially if I need this connector for the backups.
Thanks for all this help. Greatly appreciated
