I realized today that my 67 L79 has a 6550133 compressor not the correct 5910645 part. It has the two separate foil stickers, one for the part number, the other for the manufactures information. It looks like it came off a 63 or 64 according to the Nolan Adams restoration guide. The 65 and 66 used the same part number but the foil stickers are missing in the photos in the restoration guide.
Will this incorrect part number make a difference in how the POA valve is operating? What is the difference between the two compressors? The reason for asking is that the high side pressure on the POA valve is 45 PSIG. Before I start playing with the POA I would like to know if the incorrect compressor has anything to do with it.
I searched but it appears the search function on the forum is broken.
The POA valve should function independently of the compressor model. Is it a new or rebuilt POA, or is it a used one? They typically "stick" in the closed down position which causes the higher pressure you see. Mine did the same thing. Eventually it came around after a few hours operation. I heard a loud "POP" and the refrigerant pressure dropped to the correct 30 psig.
According to AC DELCO catalog, the same "replacement" compressor is specified for all the mid-year cars. So differences should be minor.
After further investigation I have determined the compressor to be a 1963 vintage with a build code of 573, May 7, 1963. The compressor has the correct part number and both foil labels. It is very original.
Will this work correctly in my 67 and does anyone know the difference between the 63 and 67 units?
Finally, anyone have a 67 compressor in a 63 vette they want to trade?
