I found a triple black all original 427/425 hp 66 with a no hit body. the only option the car has is a hardtop. The car is in bad shape. the frame needs some repair, the interior needs to be replaced, comlete repaint, and while the enigine only has 40,000 miles on it, it has not been run in 30 years and has been sitting in a field. I can only assume that it will need to be rebuilt
Original owner is asking 35,000. What do you all think. The body might need new gel coat to save the glass from the sun damage. What shoud i offer?
I happen to think $30,000 - $35,000 is a nice price for the project so long as it has its original motor, trans and rear. Triple black is extremely rare and a great color when painted correctly. Any docs?
IMHO thats alot of money for a car that has been sitting outside all these years. I found a 1965 big block car 396..That was no more than a parts car.. guy wanted 20k for it.. It looked like it was sitting in the bottom of a well.
The car is apparently a one owner all original car with 4.11 rear gears. The metal on the car looks good-birdcage, but i am still not 100 percent certain on the frame. I had a guy look at it and he said it was solid, but he is not experienced and may be mistaken. Im going to look at the car next monday or tuesday after i get out of California. Ive always loved the black cars and it looks like they are extremely rare.
My guess is this
30,000 for the car
5,000 for interior
5,000 for paint-I will be doing all of the body work since it has never been hit
8,000 for chassis
5,000 for misc.
Total: 53,000-not to mention my labor, but that is free
=Pretty good deal
oh and an additional 1,000 to restore the hardtop and softop, so

I always add everything up then add 50 to 75% because that's what it will really cost in the end.

It hasn't been run in 30 years, so it was parked around 1979ish...which means it was on the road for around 12-13 years. I would think that any car that is only being driven 3k miles per year isn't going to end up parked in a field. Wouldn't it be more likely to expect it has 140K miles on the car?

I think that even if you had 75K invested, and you probably will, it would be worth every penny of that when you're done----if it is what you think it is.

Don't forget all the mechanical needs this car will have after sitting for 30 years. Engine, transmission, rear end, brakes, cooling system, chassis etc. That will add up. However, if you can buy it right and the frame is solid a 425 horse black 66 is a great car to own. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
I think you forgot the $10K in the motor after sitting 30 yrs

Hmmmmmmm lets see
I didn't see $1000 wiring harness,$1500 for bumpers, $500 for soft top if nothing is rotted away, I saw $8,000 for frame kida low with trailing arms and everything else Plus a frame
I think the gentlemen that said 50 to 75% added was pretty much right on.

I would take a really good look at it, explain to the seller the amount of time and money it will take to bring the car back with worst case scenario and offer him a fair figure if you are sure you want to take it on. I would not assume it only has 40,000 miles. You can check the brakes, fluids, wear on brake pedal, etc. Then birdcage, frame, body panels, fit, and bonding strips to see if it was parked because of poor repair from an accident. Of course, check all the numbers and registry. Good luck! Might be a good project that may pay off down the road.
