I've noticed that my ignition switch isn't acting quite right so I thought I would put it out here for suggestions/comments.
Here's what it's doing:
1) It feels like it's hanging up when I turn it off. The other day I noticed a wired (not normal) engine sound when I turned it off. Almost as if it turned off for a fraction of a second, then came back to life, then went off.
2) When I turn off the switch, a couple times I've gotten an "electrical pop" through my sound system. I've got a 250 watt / 7 speaker system so it's easy to hear the pop when it happens.
I was thinking about soaking the switch real good with contact cleaner, but I thought I should see what the experts suggest before I go screw something up.

if it is starting to act up,and if indeed it is the switch, feel lucky it is giving you warning, and not leaving you stranded or in a position where you have to hot wire it to limp home. the original one's with the hood for the dash bulb on the back are getting harder and harder to find. i got lucky with one last year on flea bay, it was new still in the delco box with an un pulled string for 60.00. you can try to soak it or repair it in some way . i actually was able to pull the back off of mine but was evident once i did that it was toast, the contacts on the copper ring were burnt between start and run......the new "replacements" will work but you have to modify the connector. the correct part number for my 66 was d-1470 delco......good luck......might try long island corvette.......

I'd put a new ignition switch in, the electrical part not the key part. They are only about $20 and I think you can still get them from your local Chevy dealer.

I guess it was a year or so ago when I bought mine from my Chevy dealer. I guess that source dried up. Still they are available from the vendors for the same price.
