62 327/300 HP PG Intake Manifold Identification
I need some help, wife says lots of help, understanding the numbers on my intake manifold.
Car: Stock 62, numbers matching 327/300 hp Power Glide.
Intake manifold numbers:
Just behind carb mounting surface: 3799349. NCRS manual indicates this is the correct cast iron manifold for this vehicle. Also cast into the manifold near this number are the following: GM 1 and 2-2-61. What do these numbers represent?
Also, just infront of the distributor hole there is the following number:
D 42
what does this number represent?
According to the vin, my car was build in May of 62. If the 2-2-61 repersents a casting date why would it be more that 1 year before it ended up on an engine? Is there something special about the intake manifold for a 300 HP engine for PG's? Could there have been over production in 61?
I don't intend to show or have this car judged, too much fun driving. I would just like to know.
Thanks and remember to say THANK YOU to a Vet

According to the JG all 62 , 300 HP, 3799349 intakes appear with a casting date of 2-2-61 (possibly a mold date) but will also carry the actual date:
D 4 2 = April 2, 1962.
Seems perfect for a May 62 build date.
