Driver side window fails to go up or down. Removed door panel, checked power to switch and to motor. Okay. Acts as though window track mechanism is jammed. Driver tries to move.
My first time inside the door of 61. I have numerous manuals but they just do not show the how's and why's of the operation
Suggestions??? Anybody with a pic of window operational mechanisms?
Thanks
have you tried jumping the up or down side to see if the window will then go up? does the pass window go up or down? i think they were wired so if one switch failed both go out..
I don't know if a 61 is like my 65,but check the rear glass channel and see if the felt hasn't come loose and balled up in the channel jamming the glass. That's what happened to my 65 power window. I assume that since you say the driver side tries to move, that the motor is working. Have you tried to see if you can assist it by hand, either up or down? You might want to get an assembly manual for your car. Frankly, I would have been lost when I took my door apart without it.
Every once in a while my windows get jammed in the fully up position. Seems the mechanism gets a little over center. A smart whack on the top of the window frame with a rubber mallet usually solves the problem. If this is a new problem and not a continuing condition AND the motor seems like it wants to function this "fix" will work. Bob

Bob,
Thanks for the tip. I got caught in the rain at a car show with my 60 resto-rod, and the window got caught in the up position. The motor and switch were still working because it would still move up and down a quarter of an inch or so. One gentle wack with a rubber mallet and it is working again.
