What keys open what? The ignition key obviously is for the ignition, where else should it work? What key locks the glove box, spare tire lock and doors?
The ignition and door key are supposed to be the same, but due too some issue, broken lock, or ignition cylinder, they may not match. A smaller one is for the glove box and the spare was another seperate one. Dennis

If someone has ever changed the ignition lock cylinder, chances are your present ignition key won't operate the door locks, unless they were changed at the same time with matching cylinders.
For 1966 there are two keys used. One is for the ignition and door locks, and the second one is for the glovebox and spare tire lock. These two keys look similar.
The "A" and "B" style keys (which look different from each other) did not begin until the 1967 model.
Thanks for the imput. While the door panels are off, I'm going to take all locks and ignition to a friend of mine who is a long time locksmith. With the goal in mind to be able to lock the car and use it more and more as an every day driver.

I've been waiting for someone to post on this subject, but so far haven't.
But, I seem to remember that the '66 ignition cylinder is a one-year item, different than either the earlier or later cylinders used. The key itself has a keyway slot that is different in some manner, as I recall.
You may work out by going to a locksmith, but I think it'll prove to be just as cheap and a lot quicker to buy a complete cylinder set for a '66 from some of the dealers, they come with matching door and ignition cylinders. Not too expensive, and everything works as it should and is brand new, not already worn out.

If you have any problems, let us know. I know two guys who do this work for very reasonable (cheap) prices. Probably a few weeks turnaround time.
