Default Ignition Switch light

Please help. I am trying to install the ignition switch in my dash, but there is no way that the lamp holder will fit and still be able to install the switch. I have a 64 dash frame and am using a switch from Paragon. What am I doing wrong or missing here.

Those repo switches don't fit. I've bought them from NAPA and the vette vendors and they're all a pos made to generically fit Fred Flintstone's dynomoblie to the space shuttle. Sure, you can grind them down and grind the back of the dask but when you get through the switch will be loose in the dash and the key will rest in any position. My only solution was E-bay, took a few months before one showed up and I paid dearly. If anyone does know of a good fitting switch I would buy one as a spare. CJ

I'm not sure about 64 but if it is the same as 63 the lamp and lamp mount are not an integral part of the ignition switch. The lamp mount is small, flat metal piece containing the lamp socket and it is attached to the rear of the instrument cluster housing with a single screw.

63 and 64 are the same. The bulb holder slides onto the switch, its even murphy proof, cause there is a flat edge so it cant get screwed up. If you look at flea-bay, everybody is selling this same part, its a copper bulb holder.

Do all cars utilize this lamp? Does anybody have a picture of this thing installed that they would be willing to share?

Thanks again

Mine is a '65. I don't know if they are all the same. Its been a couple of years since I replaced my harness. I can't remember the details of the light holder. I shoved my camera up in there the best I could for these pics.

Thanks for the thought Jerry, but 63 and 64 are by themselves and 65 on up, the bulb holder is a part of the housing.

Ok - Here are a couple of pics from CC. But does not show it together. I know you need a pic of it assembled.
Good luck. Sounds like another quality repo part from others experience too

Oh yeah. There is no way that is working on a 63/64. You gotta have the proper piece for the light.

Here are a couple of shots under the dash of my early '64. I could not get great pic's, but perhaps these will help:

Here are a couple of shots of an NOS Delco Remy 1116650 switch that I bought as a backup to avoid using a repro if the need arose. I believe this superceded the 1116635 that the cars were originally equipped with. I believe this switch also has a Buick application:

I have bought a few things from Dave Soltow at Yesteryear Antique Automobile Parts in Port Charlotte, Florida - he has a huge inventory of NOS electrical components. You may want to give him a call: 941-743-6391 and see what he has.

I hope this helps.

Todd

Is it possible to use a 65 on up and chunk the earlier one ? Just think of it as an upgrade.

Thanks for all the reply's and help. But just incase some body else runs into this, and after a bit of looking on Flea-bay, the lamp holder is part of the harness. Its just a cheesy piece of metal that screws on the dash housing, nothing like what is sold now. Like I said, somebody has a dash housing on Flea-Bay right now that has the lamp holder still attached to the dash housing and it answered all questions.
