Default 54 door interior question

I was pulling the old vinyl off my door panels. Just above the door pulls are the long decorative covers with (2) notches for the window and latch *****. One of mine is fiberglas and the other is a stamped metal one with formed black foam glued to it to bring it to the same shape as the fiberglas one. I find the wierdest stuff sometimes. Which is correct?

Metal rubber one is early ,fiberglass is second design, few judges check or know the differeance

Same goes for the dash trim as seen here METAL early , later fiberglass , few owners know this, you just have one of each, check your dash trim to see if it's soft, if yes it's steel and (rubber)

Mine were fiberglass but my 54 Vette was a very late car.

Thanks guys. I have two dash pieces and they are both fiberglas. I'll hunt up a fiberglas piece, I believe it's the drivers side. Or trade someone if they want the metal/foam piece.

Default Early

Roy,

When you say it's early, wasn't it made in the middle of the 54 run. Somewhere between cars serial # 2900-3900? Just asking, I have not a one on my cars and the 55 cars have white fiberglass. The 53's are cloth on mine and crude.

OK, here's the two different pics of the door pieces. One metal/rubber and one fiberglas.

You will notice that the steel one also was covered with a cotton material glued to the rubber to increase the thickness . All 53 and early 54 had them.

Yes, this one has a darker woven materiel glued to the foam. What looks like rust from the outside is actually the foam /cotten materiel which has pulled away from the metal a bit. Did not know this, Roy is a wealth of information. Very interesting, thanks Roy.
