Help...I have found my headlight switch in a jar, disassembled. It seems that most parts are there (missing one spring for one of the contacts)...but, it isn't obvious how the switch **** and rod are secured inside the switch. There must be some clip or ? that holds the shaft inplace, but if so...it is missing.
Has anyone out there taken this model switch apart and can you give me a clue how the rod is secured inside the switch?

if you will look down the side of the switch, you will see a 'button'. this releases the ****/rod when you push it in and pull out on the ****. installing it is just a matter of pushing the ****/rod into the switch til it clicks...

Why is it so hard to attach photos to a posting...what am I missing?
I have photos of my Headlight Switch and I believe I am missing the element that snaps onto the shaft to hold it in. I would attach them if I could figure out how. I would like to get some input on how the shaft is secured into the contact shuttle. Thanks

I had the one for my 65 apart (unsuccessfully) and here's what I can remember. Note that my memory is almost 3 years old, so you may find the data below to be completely inaccurate.
1) The 2 metal "U" shaped pieces ride on the contacts in the switch body. If you look you should see 2 little bumps on each of the U pieces. Those bumps ride on the contacts.
2) They are held down with the 2 springs.
3) Which are held in place by the black square block
4) Which is held in place when the metal switch base is installed and firmly attached.
5) The yellow plastic part and the copper colored ring work together I THINK to rub on the rheostat spring which in turn serves to dim the dash lights.
6) The headlight **** shaft penetrates the yellow plastic part/copper ring, goes into the switch housing, and snaps into that black block from step 3.
I'm not sure, but I think something may be missing, something to retain the headlight **** shaft in that black block.
I'm not sure you wouldn't be better off with a new/repro switch...quite a bit of current goes through these and they even have a thermal cutout...if everything isn't right it'll just be more trouble...
