Default AC pump ?

I'm getting set to run the new engine in the test stand this weekend and I need a question answered.

The engine has a serpentine drive with AC pump and I'm wondering if it will hurt the pump running it out of an AC system. It's a hassle getting it out of the loop and I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Any help appreciated.

Dave

i wouldn't... while there is oil in the pump body, the lubrication of the pump is done by the freon and oil circulating when the system is running. AND you run the risk of dirt and moisture getting into the pump.

As long as you don't engage the pump clutch you should be OK. Only the pulley will be turning.

I would plug the holes with some tube to prevent the contamination issue.

I wondered about that. No power to it and it should freewheel, but I'll check to make sure.

Thanks for the help
