Default c1 soft top trouble

My 62 fawm/fawn came with hardtop only and I retrofitted a correct soft top. The side rails sag a little with the top up. Everything I've read says there's some kind of lock mech. but no evidence on mine. Any ideas, photos, numbers, etc. thanks,RK.

Not on my soft top....on my old conv Mustangs tho there were some adjustments to get the side rails over the roll up windows horizontal; there were also some kind of thin steel cable to maintain tension IIRC...

The "locking mechanism" you are referring to is probably located on the the frame mounting brackets mounted on the large triangular shaped metal support behind the seats. Try loosening the bolts on the inner bracket and then have someone lift up on the center of the side rail (where the joint is located) while you tighten the bolts.

This is the correct way to do it! If you don't have a "helper" you can lift the side rail, with your back, while tightening your bolts. However if you installed the top with the frame not adjusted completly, you may be SOL. Lar

One of your side rails may also be bent, use a straight edge to check it.
Mine sags a bit on the driver's side, but is fine on the pass side. I'm going to try adjusting since I have the seats out anyway.

I believe the ST-12 outlines the adjustment to get the sag out

Welcome!

Where did you get your top frame? I've heard mixed things about the repros, was wondering if you used a repro and if so, if you had any fitment issues.

My 62 has an original top, and there's nothing I'd call a lock associated with the top side rails, unless it's where Charles is referring down where the frame mounts to the car.

Thanks!
Jeff

Yes welcome! My appologies for not noticing that you were new to the forum. I sent you an answer to your PM, hopefully we'll get the cars together this summer.
