Default Engine Backfire

I have a 67 small block with side exhaust. When I back off the accelerator I'll get some back fire through the passenger side exhaust pipe. This only happens after the engine is warm. The last time I had my oil changed I notice two tiny holes in the side exhaust pipe. Could this be the culprit or are there other things to look for. Thanks

It's probably normal to get some popping through the exhaust when decellerating. Look at race cars with open exhaust. You are probably noticing it more because the baffles in your sidepipe are shot. Just a long distance guess.

If the engine is running rich and with the holes in the pipe, it could be igniting the excess fuel in the exhaust by adding oxygen for combustion.
